Title: A new idea on terahertz intensity interferometry - Photon Counting Terahertz Interferometry (PCTI)

Speaker: Prof.  Hiroshi Matsuo

Time: 2:00pm, (Thursday) August 25, 2011

Location:  Middle Conference Room, 3rd floor

Abstract:  I will discuss on the idea of applying intensity interferometry in terahertz frequencies, which was first demonstrated by Hanbury Brown and Twiss in 1956 and diameter of bright stars were measured. However, they suffered from low efficiency and missing phase information. When you use photon counting detectors in THz frequencies, you can overcome these problems, and can apply to the future space interferometry in THz frequencies. Some science cases will be discussed as well.
