APSG 2017 International Symposium Successfully Held in Shanghai

APSG 2017 International Symposium of Asia-Pacific Space Geodynamics (APSG) Program, with theme “From Space Geodesy to Astro-Geodynamics”, was successfully held in Shanghai, China, during 15-18 August, 2017.

Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the APSG Program initiator, hosted this symposium. Other sponsors are: APSG Program Central Bureau, International Association of Geodesy (IAG), Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS), Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. More than80 participants of experts, researchers and students from several countries and regions including China, America, Russia, France, Kazakhstan, Hongkong attended the symposium, communicating latest progress on Asia-Pacific Space Geodynamics. And the proceedings will be published on a peer-reviewed journal, Geodesy and Geodynamics, next year.

The topics of the 48 oral and 16 poster presentations in the conference spread over various related fields, such sessions as Space Geodesy Techniques and Applications, Earth Rotation, Global geophysics and geodynamics, Gravitational Field, Height Datum and Terrestrial Reference Frame, GNSS and Applications, Regional Crustal Structure, Seismic Deformation, Tsunami and Ionosphere, etc.

Plans for APSG’s future are also discussed in the symposium that will surely make contributions to leading APSG Project to a sounder and mature future. Meanwhile, it will not only deepen our understanding of the dynamics of the global Earth, but also monitor and study the tectonic and local phenomenon in Asia-Pacific region, via space geodetical theories and techniques, which will help us to decrease the risk of natural hazards.
