The international meeting on New Technologies for Probing the Diversity held

The international meeting on《New Technologies for Probing the Diversity of Brown Dwarfs and Exoplanets》was successfully held in Jianguo Hotel, Shanghai from July 20th to July 24th. This is the first big international meeting on exoplanet science which was held in China. There were more than 130 participants among which 90 participants were foreign scientists and students who came from many countries, like USA, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italian, Chile, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, Poland and Taiwan area. Many famous international specialists and experts were invited to give oral talks, including Dr. Michael Shao (NASA JPL SIM project leading scientist), Dr. Eric Young (NASA Sofia project director), Dr. Webster Cash (NASA MAXIMUM project director), Professor Douglas N.C. Lin (Internationally famous astrophysict, Director of Kavli Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics,) Professor Xiangqun Cui (LAMOST Chief Designing Scientist, NIAOT Director), Professor Xiaoyu Hong (Director of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory) and Professor Jian Ge (University of Florida), etc. It is true that new discoveries depend on the development of new technologies, especially for the researches of exoplanets and brown dwarfs. During the meeting, there were many talks on new results of observations, new developments of instruments and telescopes, new ideas and focus on new plans of future space-base and ground-base projects. In the meeting, there were over 60 oral talks, including 31 invited talks, and more than 50 poster presentations. Except for interesting discussions and plan of future collaboration, some talks also announced new discoveries on exoplants and brown dwarfs for the first time. From the meeting, Chinese scientists and students learned about the progresses of the international researches on new technologies for probing the exoplants and brown dwarfs which can help to motivate the researches on this field in China. At the same time, foreign scientists also knew about the research progress in China and helped to build up domestic and international collaboration. All the participants enjoyed the meeting and the life in Shanghai a lot, in addition, they had experience on the great developing of Chinese economy and building of cities. Meeting participants also took part in the activities of viewing the total solar eclipse in July 22nd.
