Abstract:

Deep X-ray surveys are the most effective method of identifying reliable and quite complete samples of distant active galactic nuclei (AGNs), the main sites of supermassive black hole growth in the Universe. Deep X-ray surveys along with multi-wavelength supporting data have enabled studies on the demographics, physics, and ecology of AGNs. The 7 Ms Chandra Deep Field-South Survey (CDF-S) is the deepest X-ray survey performed to date, and CDF-S is arguably the most intensively studied multiwavelength deep-survey region in the entire sky. We present X-ray source catalogs for the 7 Ms Chandra Deep Field-South, and discuss some of the other first science results from the 7 Ms CDF-S data.
