Galaxy Evolution after z = 2.5 with the CANDELS Survey on Hubble and the Thirty-Meter Telescope

Galaxy Evolution after z = 2.5 with the CANDELS Survey on Hubble and the Thirty-Meter Telescope

  Location: Lecture Hall, 3rd floor

The CANDELS survey on Hubble has assembled the first truly representative high-resolution imaging database of galaxies at all redshifts. This talk will describe the first "panoramic" analysis of this database with the goal of understanding the the broad trends in galactic evolution at mid-to-late cosmic epochs. Star-forming galaxies at these epochs show a very small number of independent parameters, which can all plausibly  be linked to properties of their dark-matter halos. Spectra with the Thirty-Meter Telescope will provide the crucial data needed to follow up these results.
